Plane crashes at San Diego Navy base during rough weather from Tropical Storm Kay

SAN DIEGO – A jet went off a runway at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California, on Friday because the impacts from Tropical Storm Kay had been felt throughout the area.

A public affairs officer stated the Navy-contracted airplane was making an attempt to land at round 1:15 p.m. when it slid off a runway and into an embankment alongside the San Diego Bay.

Two folks had been aboard and capable of escape the plane after the crash.

Authorities stated each had been transported to a neighborhood hospital for examination.

A close-by weather statement web site reported rain and gusty winds within the space courtesy of Tropical Storm Kay, which was centered about 100 miles south of San Diego.

Federal companies will look at the wreckage and decide what precipitated the airplane to overshoot the runway.

Nearby San Diego International Airpot reported 0.56″ of rainfall fell by mid-afternoon, a daily record. 

Tropical Storm Kay is quickly weakening over the cool waters of the eastern Pacific.

Impacts on both Mexico and California are forecast to decrease through the weekend.
