The annual celebration of getting a National Christmas Tree at the White House began in 1923 after students at the District of Columbia Public Schools despatched a letter to President Calvin Coolidge.
Now, the National Christmas Tree is a beloved custom and youngsters from throughout the nation have a hand in adorning the show.
The America Celebrates Ornaments Program is an annual collaboration of the National Park Service, the U.S. Department of Education, and the National Park Foundation.
Each yr, 1000’s of students take part in this system to design ornaments that can decorate smaller trees that encompass the National Christmas Tree.
This yr, 2,600 students designed ornaments to showcase the locations that they name house.
While most states are represented by only one college within the America Celebrates Ornaments Program, the Sooner State really has two colleges representing it.
Jenks Middle School in Tulsa was chosen to design the ornaments representing Oklahoma. Also, Riverside Indian School in Anadarko was certainly one of two colleges chosen to characterize the Bureau of Indian Education.
Organizers say Riverside Indian School is the oldest federally operated Indigenous Residential School within the nation. It was first opened in 1871.
The ornaments will adorn trees in entrance of the White House via Jan. 1, 2023.
