Athena Strand AMBER Alert: Officials say they don’t need help



The 7-year-old was final seen Wednesday night, officers say.

WISE COUNTY, Texas — As crews proceed to seek for lacking 7-year-old Athena Strand, the Wise County Office of Emergency Management is asking folks hoping to volunteer within the search to remain away from the world.

“At this time, we will not be utilizing volunteers to assist with the search,” the division said Friday morning. “Arriving on scene at a large scale incident without being requested to a) offer to help or b) bring unrequested supplies, takes time and resources away from the task at hand.”

On Thursday, the division mentioned a number of first responders from throughout the state assisted in trying to find Strand, who was final seen Wednesday at her dwelling in Paradise, Texas. More than 300 volunteers assisted within the search, it mentioned.

“The outpouring of support from this community has been overwhelming… Food, flashlights and water donations have poured in,” Wise County OEM mentioned in a submit on Facebook.

The division suggested those that one of the best ways to help to find Athena was to share and “respect the information posted by official sources only.” Any requests for provides or volunteers can be introduced on Wise County’s social media

Strand was final seen Wednesday night close to County Road 3573 in Paradise. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office mentioned Strand’s stepmother had known as authorities after she mentioned she had gone to Strand’s room and located she was gone. 

An AMBER Alert was issued Thursday afternoon, describing Strand as “endangered.”

The AMBER Alert mentioned Strand was final seen carrying a grey/black long-sleeve shirt, blue denims with flowers on the entrance pockets and brown boots.

In an replace Thursday night, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that each the stepmother and father are cooperating with authorities within the case.
