Meet the Hondo Garden Club



HONDO, Texas – If you ever taken a pressure and headed west on US Highway 90 and pushed thru the the city of Hondo, you will have spotted the comfy cottage area known as the Hondo Garden Club Thrift Shop.

Inside of the cottage, you’ll in finding gently used garments for adults and kids, dinnerware, books and antiques.

“You’d be surprised what people donate,” Lee Taylor, the former president of the Hondo Garden Club stated. “It’s unbelievable. Everything in here was donated and we process it.”

The thrift store is certainly one of the some ways the Hondo Garden Club has been elevating cash for 75 years to provide again to the group.

“We sometimes we pull in $1,000 a week, so that’s not bad, you know, so we have that money to to give back,” Taylor stated.

Taylor isn’t just a former president of the membership but in addition the present president of Texas Garden Clubs. She stated the lawn membership is so a lot more than a membership for gardening.

“It makes me feel more connected completely, you know, to everything,” Taylor stated. “It’s just like our own little support group. If we have problems or things happen, you know, it’s just we all band together.”

Current president Mindy Coyne of the Hondo Garden Club stated everybody in the membership has commonplace pursuits, a love for gardening and serving to the group.

“We love nature, we love helping our community, and we get a lot of joy working together to make the community more beautiful,” Coyne stated. “And it makes us feel more proud of Hondo.”

The membership has completed a lot for the Hondo group, from beautifying spaces like native fundamental faculties and the soccer stadium with pocket gardens, to giving again scholarships, to donating to loads of organizations in Hondo over the years.

Coyne stated to sign up for them, you don’t even need to understand how to lawn, as it’s so a lot more than gardening for them.

“A lot of people say, I don’t want to be in the garden club, I don’t know anything about gardening,” Coyne stated. “I say, You don’t have to. If you like helping the community and working hard, then come on here and we’ll teach you about gardening.”

If you wish to meet the Hondo Garden Club or discuss with their Thrift Shop, the store is open each Thursday from 1 p.m. to five p.m. at 1903 nineteenth Street off of US Highway 90.

Donations for the thrift store are permitted each Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10:30 a.m. to at least one p.m. To be informed extra about the membership, you’ll be able to discuss with their Facebook page.
