Houston to receive its fifth area code by 2025 – Houston Public Media

Houston can be receiving every other area code, the Public Utility Commission of Texas introduced on Wednesday.

The 621 area code, which can be created to briefly accommodate town’s booming inhabitants enlargement, is not going to have an effect on present telephone numbers.

The area is anticipated to run out of latest telephone numbers beginning with the present area codes by 2025, in accordance to the fee. Houston already has 4 area codes, 621 would be the fifth.

“Once telecommunications carriers have exhausted all telephone numbers with the current 281/346/713/832 area codes, new numbers will be assigned the new area code 621,” in accordance to the fee. “This new code is expected to meet numbering needs for an additional nine years.”
