Former radio personality killed in industrial accident in Manatee County


SARASOTA, Fla. — A former Southwest Florida radio personality was killed Tuesday in an industrial accident, in line with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Lee Firestone, who was identified to 96k-Rock listeners as Leroy Van Zant on the “Stan & Haney” morning present from 2003-2008, had turned his consideration to an artwork gallery in the Bradenton space and was additionally working at a Waste Pro facility in the Sarasota/Bradenton space.

According to the sheriff’s workplace incident report, Firestone was performing upkeep on the hydraulics of a rubbish truck when the hydraulic blade/door on the facet of the truck closed on his head.

He was pronounced lifeless on the scene.

The preliminary report stated there was an obvious miscommunication between Firestone and one other worker through the restore.

“Evidence indicates this was an accidental death,” the report stated. “The investigation continues.”
