Father of drowning victim helps build safety fences to prevent other deaths


WINDCREST, Texas – Jason Sheffield used to be so moved to take motion after his younger son’s drowning that he modified careers to assist steer clear of extra equivalent deaths.

Sheffield’s 3-year-old son tragically died seven years in the past in 2017. He now installs fences for Life Saver Pool Fence of the Hill Country to assist other households steer clear of tragedies.

“He was the 90th child in 2016 to drown. One hundred seven actually drowned that year and died,” Sheffield stated.

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services’ kid drowning statistics display 56 youngsters drowned in Texas in 2023. Three of the ones deaths took place in Bexar County.

Sheffield’s project is to train households within the hopes of saving lives.

He simply completed putting in a fence round Mary Vasquez’s yard pool. She made up our minds to have it put in after she spotted her grandson may just open the backdoor.

“He is drawn to the water. The minute he comes out, that’s the first thing that he wants to do. He wants to go in the water. He’s just without any fear. He’s walking right into it,” she stated.

For her, the fence value is part the associated fee of a funeral and the fee of having peace of thoughts.
