Collin County court: Plano man sentenced to life for ax attack



Plano PD stated Gregory Reed and the sufferer had been positioned at a close-by hospital after the attack, and stated the sufferer had important accidents to her hand and arm.

COLLIN COUNTY, Texas — A Plano man will spend the remainder of his life in jail after attacking and severely injuring girlfriend with an ax in 2021, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced.

Gregory Reed, 57, was sentenced to life in jail for the first-degree aggravated assault with a lethal weapon inflicting severe bodily harm to a member of the family.

On June 9, 2021, Plano law enforcement officials had been referred to as to a house on Buckle Lane in response to an assault. When officers arrived, members of the family stated that they believed Reed had used an ax to attack his girlfriend and left the house along with her.

Officers stated they noticed apparent indicators of trauma, together with a variety of blood and the ax.

Plano PD stated Reed and the sufferer had been positioned at a close-by hospital and stated the sufferer had important accidents to her hand and arm.

When officers had been ready to separate her from Reed, she instructed police that she was sleeping when Reed woke her up wielding an ax and swung it at her.

The sufferer stated she had to use her arms and arms to defend herself, and Reed ultimately stopped attacking her as she was begging for her life.

The sufferer had to have a number of surgical procedures, which resulted in everlasting disfigurement, police stated.

“This brave woman survived a deadly attack by fighting for her life against an ax-wielding abuser, who scarred her permanently. She then had the courage to face him in court. In return, this violent habitual offender deserved nothing less than the maximum sentence,” stated DA Willis after Reed was sentenced.

Collin County Judge Benjamin Smith presided over the case, discovered Reed responsible and handed down his life sentence. Reed had been beforehand sentenced to jail for 5 years for aggravated assault with a lethal weapon and 19 years for assault household violence with earlier conviction, officers stated.
