STILLWATER, Oklahoma (KOCO) — A lady on a billboard in Stillwater in a single day hopes to raise awareness for a baby advocacy heart.
Sharyl Pickens can be 40 ft up till 7 p.m. Thursday night time. For 36 hours in complete, she can be up on that billboard elevating awareness for victimized children.
“I’m kind of crazy. People have called me a nut for doing this. It’s a little outside the norm but that’s what we need right now,” Pickens mentioned.
Starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, she climbed up the billboard overlooking Highway 177. She gained’t be coming down till 7 p.m. Thursday night time.
“I thought well, I could climb up there and draw attention to a nonprofit organization and see if we could get something crazy,” Pickens mentioned.
The braveness act is to raise awareness for Saville Center.
“She is one of our greatest supporters,” mentioned Heidi Warren, program administrator.
The Saville Center is a baby advocacy company offering companies for victimized children who’ve been abused or uncared for.
“We function on grants and private donations. Any help we can get is appreciated and needed. Everything we do here is for the kids,” Warren mentioned.
She picked the date again in September when the long-term forecast seemed a bit of hotter.
“We have a list on my Facebook page that is a list of things that the Saville Center needs,” Pickens mentioned.
Despite the frigid temperatures, she mentioned she’s in it for the lengthy haul.
“I can’t see what would make me come down unless there’s a terrible, terrible wind or maybe precipitation. I’ve got an electric heater, my Keurig coffee machine. We’ve already made coffee this morning,” Pickens mentioned.
