Woman in critical condition after shoved into moving NYC subway train, suspect sought: Police

A lady is in critical condition after being “forcibly shoved” into a moving subway teach in New York City after which falling onto the tracks, police mentioned.

The “horrific assault” happened on the 53rd Street/Fifth Avenue station in midtown Manhattan noon Wednesday, NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kaplan mentioned all the way through a press briefing.

The 30-year-old sufferer was once status at the platform whilst a teach was once pulling out of the station when she was once driven, “causing her head to strike the moving train,” Kaplan mentioned.

The sufferer then fell onto the tracks, at which level just right Samaritans helped her again up at the platform and referred to as 911, Kaplan mentioned.

She was once transported to a neighborhood medical institution with head trauma and underwent surgical operation, Kaplan mentioned. She is these days in critical condition and is “fighting for her life,” he mentioned.

It is unclear what led as much as the attack, Kaplan mentioned. Eyewitnesses are these days being interviewed and the sufferer has but to talk to police, he mentioned.

Police recognized a suspect in the attack as Sabir Jones, 45. He is understood to the police division in the subway device, Kaplan mentioned.

Jones allegedly fled the site on foot and exited the turnstiles at West 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue, police mentioned whilst freeing surveillance photos of the suspect. He has no longer but been apprehended, Kaplan mentioned.

Officials mentioned they consider the lady was once going to or from paintings when she was once randomly attacked.

“In the past year, we have made tremendous progress on subway crime,” Janno Lieber, CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, mentioned all the way through the briefing. “But that’s no consolation to the family of this young woman.”
