What does an ‘Atmospheric River’ pattern mean for Oklahoma?

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma is in an “Atmospheric River” climate pattern which delivers a lot of precipitation to the west coast and mountains!

An atmospheric river is principally a conveyor belt of moisture from the Pacific Ocean — and whereas they’re not on land like typical rivers, they do include sufficient water to be categorised as rivers, U.S. Geological Survey explains.

Technically, an atmospheric river, or AR, is a channel of water vapor that will get picked up close to Hawaii, then transported by atmospheric wind instantly into the West.
