What went improper that allowed Oklahoma State to take the group out of the sport from the start: “Yeah, they did. They did right from beginning. We didn’t really have an answer for [Kalib] Boone or [Moussa] Cisse. First play of the game we trapped and we missed an assignment. On the very first play the game, he spun around the trap and got it to the man on the block. And then we went one-on-one and he scored. Cisse came in and was knocking down mid range shots. was rolling behind our post. Just no answer for Cisse and Boone. I thought those two, their length and athleticism getting behind on the rolls. They started hitting the pocket shots, Boone’s one-on-one. You know, [they were] 16-for-20 between the two, 36 points between their five-men. Their athleticism and length between those spots, I thought those [bothered us]. Just right from the beginning, just Boone pass out of a trap, Boone one-on-one, Boone one-on-one; Cisse comes in and hits pocket shots, pocket shots, roll dunks. And then I thought their guards, the speed of the guards, they played downhill. But those two, Cisse and Boone, I gotta give [credit]. They really, really affected us on trying to make some decisions, what to do, the way they rolled, scored in the post, hit the pocket shots, 16-for-20.”

If they nearly simply should depend on excellent offense to fight that: “Well, and then they were hitting shots. They hit some 3’s. [Woody] Newton hit that shot. But yeah, like we started digging down in the post. We were just trying different ball screen coverages because their guards are so quick. You know, Tanner [Groves] was having to stay in the ball screen coverage, and they’d roll behind. Then they’d hit the pocket. When they start hitting the pocket we were [out of place]. Those two had an answer for almost everything that we were doing, Cisse and Boone, scoring in the post. Then Cisse scored one-on-one in the post in the second half; Boone scored one in the post. They rolled behind. Then they got the offensive rebounds. Just [they got] 16-for-20, 36 points between those two athletic five-men.”

How a lot Oklahoma State’s strain bothered the offense or how a lot it was simply them not hitting pictures: “ I thought we had some shots early. You gotta give them credit. They’re top seven in defense. So, we know their guards are very quick. We know they have rim protectors. Their length in the post scoring one-on-one in the post with Tanner and Jalen [Hill], they’ve got the length. We tried to throw over the top a couple times and their athleticism with their length [created problems]. But looking back, I mean, I think we were at halftime I think 2-for-14 or something. We missed some 3’s that we had some opportunities. We posted up Jalen. Jalen practice harder than anybody these last few days. He just didn’t [hit shots]. He was 0-for-6 tonight. Just didn’t have it tonight. But it wasn’t for anything that he didn’t [do]. I know he had a post up and missed a couple of bunnies. But yeah, we weren’t good offensively, missed some shots.”

If it appears like they don’t have a solution for Boone and Cisse when a recreation begins out that method: “When he starts hitting that pocket shot—he hit some pocket shots—[it’s tough] because you’ve got to give up something with it. And you’re trying to bottle up [Avery] Anderson with the speed. But Boone was there posting up. He was scoring one-on-one, passing out of the post, rolling behind you. So yeah, those two are [really good]. Now that Cisse is healthy, we saw it going in, we felt the second half of our game, Iowa State, Ole Miss, you know, even at Texas, they’re playing with a confidence downhill. And now they’ve got Cisse back and Boone’s playing the way he is, they’ve got two high level, athletic bigs that are playing well to go along with it.”

What Oklahoma State’s protection did to decelerate Grant Sherfield: “Yeah, I think they were up in him. They were switching everything. They were very physical with him with the ball. They weren’t leaving him. They didn’t give him open hardly at all. And I just think their speed, they really did a good job switching, between physical on handoffs, physical on everything. Just I thought from the jump, you know, you could just see it. They denied him a couple of times early, set the tone. But they did a nice job. But they do that against a lot of people. I’ve watched. That’s the reason why they can guard the dribble. It’s one thing I’ve talked about. People have asked me about their defense. Their guards can guard the dribble. And then when they do, they can get up in you. They’re not afraid to get up in you because if you do go by them, they’ve got Cisse and Boone. They’ve got Cisse and Boone back there. So, they know that they’ve got a rim protector if they do get driven. So, they can really get up in you. They can really get up in you because if you do go by him, they’ve got those rim protectors.”

On bother with giving up 14 offensive rebounds: “Yeah, I think you’re not going to out-jump them vertically in the paint because of the length. I gotta look at the tape. Just when you do get a stop and you’re trying to come back and then they get those offensive rebounds, those are disheartening. But I know this: If we’re not, then I gotta coach it. I gotta get up into their legs and box out more. We’ve got to box out better. Obviously, going to West Virginia, it’s what they do, too. So, I didn’t think we combated their length and athleticism on rebounding with a physical, low leverage box out.”

Where they lie proper now contemplating the win over the weekend and now this crushing loss: “I don’t know. I’m just answering questions right here about this. I know this: I’ll go back with my staff. We’ll see how we [can improve]. Obviously, this game we’ve got to put behind us, and we’ve got to put a game plan here quickly because we leave for West Virginia Friday. So, that’s our focus now.”

If he’s disillusioned for the followers that got here out and supported them tonight: “Absolutely. Very, very disappointed. That’s what you come out and you look around, and that’s the first time I’ve seen a full house like this. It was even more crowded than Alabama. So, heck yeah. Just want to say thank you to them. You know, we’re gonna keep fighting. We’re gonna build this thing. But I’m telling you, they were great. They were great, and they came out in droves. And I gotta tip my hat to Oklahoma State, their team. Their team really played well tonight. They played well. They were clicking on both ends, and they had some really good performances. They did a nice job on all facets. So yeah, very disappointed for that fanbase and they were great tonight, our guys, our fans.”
