Venezuelans living in Florida hope for extension of protection status


TAMPA, Fla. — Hundreds of hundreds of Venezuelans living in the US, together with many in Florida, are ready to see what the Biden administration will do in terms of their non permanent protected status.

A choice should come by tomorrow.

About 250,000 Venezuelans are below that protected status in the US.

Many fled to America to flee political turmoil and a humanitarian disaster occurring in Venezuela.

Estefania Pirela was 15 when she and her mom left Venezuela for America.

Her mom’s involvement in protesting the federal government put them each in hazard.

“She was threatened. We had military show up to our house. During my life. Her life. Even showing up to my school at the time,” stated Pirela.

There are many Venezuelans who got here to the US searching for political asylum.

And they’ve been capable of keep right here below what’s referred to as non permanent protected status.

Now the Biden Administration is about to resolve whether or not to increase that status even longer.

Tampa Immigration legal professional Ahmad Yakzan says about 90% of his purchasers are from Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Estefania says she is prospering in the US.

“I have just been very grateful for this country and all the opportunities I have been given,” stated Pirela.

Florida gubernatorial candidates Charlie Crist and Nikki Fried each requested the Biden administration to increase the protection status which is at the moment good till September.
