Vacant House Fire Nearly Spreads, Neighbors Thankful For OKCFD

The Oklahoma City Fire Department was busy Friday morning when a vacant dwelling in southwest Oklahoma City caught fireplace round 10 a.m. 

Crews haven’t decided a trigger for the hearth close to SW 58th Street and Western Ave. Crews labored onerous to maintain it from spreading to houses which can be occupied. 

“I didn’t answer at first, but they just kept pounding and pounding on my door so finally I got up and they told me the house is on fire,” defined neighbor Mark Brewer.

The solely factor that separated Mark’s dwelling from the burning one was a series linked fence. 

“I had to throw clothes, put my shoes on and go outside,” stated Brewer. “It was up pretty good; I could see the flames coming out the back and everything. I was worried it was going to reach my house.” 

Firefighters needed to minimize their approach contained in the vacant dwelling to get to the hearth.

“We had boarded up windows and bars on all the windows,” stated OCFD Battalion Chief, Russell Huffman. “One of the primary ladders on scene hung out with saws, chopping all that off making it so we are able to get in there and do a search to verify nobody is aspect.” 

Crews were able to get the fire under control. Brewer said he is thankful his home only smells like smoke. 

“I used to be on the point of transfer some stuff out of right here however as I watched it, the firefighters received on it actual good,” stated Mark.
