University of Incarnate Word Physical Therapy school launches occupational therapy program

SAN ANTONIO – Occupational therapists are vital as a result of some other folks need help studying or re-learning learn how to do day by day actions.

It’s why the University of Incarnate Word School of Physical Therapy has lately introduced its Doctor of Occupational Therapy program, starting this semester.

Day-to-day duties that may occasionally be taken as a right, are occasionally had to be taught, wish to be re-learned.

“We try to get people back as independent as possible so it can be from an injury or a disorder,” director of the UIW Occupational Therapy program, Dr. Jessica Maxwell stated. “They’re born with something, whatever the case is, mental, mentally, whatever the case is, we can help.”

Maxwell stated the desire for extra occupational therapists in our neighborhood is excellent.

“There are so many jobs that are needed for OTs,” Maxwell stated. “Having another program that houses occupational therapy students and promotes and produces occupational therapists is beneficial for the community.”

The program simply opened 3 new labs for college students that come with a day-to-day residing, an innovation and pediatric lab.

“With our therapy students and children, they don’t know they don’t realize they’re getting therapy because it’s all fun,” Maxwell stated. “But we are building muscles in impaired areas. We are helping with fine motor skills, are helping with movement, are helping with mental capacities.”

There are 16 scholars in its inaugural magnificence. San Antonio local Lauren Wojcik is one of the ones scholars, a Texas State University and Alamo Heights graduate.

“I love to give back,” Wojcik stated. “I love to serve and I feel like their programs, the university’s core values, they tie in together.”

Wojcik stated she is commemorated to be section of the primary team of scholars. Her dream is so that you can give again to the neighborhood paintings as an occupational therapist in her place of birth after she graduates.

“This is home,” she stated. “I would love to stay here if I could and continue to practice and be able to help as many people as I can in this field.”
