Thomas Jefferson HS to have ‘TJ Legacy Walkway’ for reopening



For all TJ alumnus, you might be part of this historic reopening by donating a brick or stone within the new “TJ Legacy Walkway.”

DALLAS — We’re simply 5 weeks away earlier than a brand new state-of-the-art Thomas Jefferson High School reopens!

The Dallas ISD college was destroyed by an EF-3 twister three years in the past.

When college students return on Jan. 9, it is going to be larger and higher.

The seniors who had been freshman in 2019 will see the transformation firsthand.

And for all TJ alumnus, you might be part of this historic reopening by donating a brick or stone within the new “TJ Legacy Walkway.”

It’s a brick walkway that shall be made up fully of donated bricks and stones.

The thought behind it was to give the varsity a way of its historical past by permitting college students from years previous to inform their story in a novel method.

Don Wiley, chair of the TJ Legacy Walkway, TJ Alumni Association board member and proud graduate of TJ class of 1972, helped lead the trouble.

“The Legacy Walk is both a witness to TJ’s past greatness and an invitation to a bold future.  With the TJ Excellence Fund, raised from the proceeds of the brick sales, TJ alums and their families will be able to remember beloved friends, teachers and parents and lift up current students. Hear our proud voices!” he stated in an interview with WFAA.

Each donation shall be completely acknowledged and can make a distinction within the lives of present and future college students by the brand new TJ Excellence Fund, created by the TJ Alumni Association.

The aim — to take TJ to the very best stage of educational achievement.

Missy Huber, president of the Thomas Jefferson HS Alumni Association and likewise a proud graduate of the category of 1972, stated since 1956 TJ has been wealthy in treasured traditions and pleasure.

“The TJ Legacy Walk symbolizes the opportunity to honor our past while moving forward with a bright future. TJ STONG!” stated Huber.

The alumni affiliation prides itself in giving again to the varsity that gave a lot to them.

Nina Castro, the Thomas Jefferson HS Alumni chair of household companies and proud graduate of the category of 1997, stated it is all a couple of pathway from the previous to the long run.

Castro has donated a whole bunch of volunteer hours to make this historic opening the most effective it may be.

“Growing up, I always looked forward to attending my local neighborhood high school. TJ has had a long-standing tradition of school spirit and community involvement,” Castro stated. “I wanted to show the current TJ students the history of our beloved school from the very beginning in 1956, all the way through the tornado of 2019. My hope is that it will boost their curiosity in the way that things were, so that, moving forward they can uphold some of those traditions.”

A lesson in giving again from individuals who by no means forgot the place they got here from. That’s what you name TJ Strong.
