WASHINGTON — New Democratic Rep. Gabe Amo, the first Black representative from Rhode Island in Congress, used to be sworn into office Monday.

Amo, a Democrat, received a unique election in November to interchange Democratic Rep. David Cicilline, who stepped down this summer time to steer a nonprofit basis.

The House chamber burst into applause as Speaker Mike Johnson swore in the brand new lawmaker.
