OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Daylight saving time can grow to be permanent in Oklahoma, however solely as quickly as lawmakers in Washington D.C. make the change federally.

“Our outdoor enthusiast, both our joggers and bicyclists, those that like to get out and hike, walk their dog, it gives them that last hour,” stated Stephens.

She stated docs principally imagine that customary time, what we’re on in the winter, is healthier for our our bodies.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has come out with the consensus statement in support of standard time,” stated Skaggs. The rationalization being that the time is healthier for our circadian rhythm.

Representative Kevin West, Republican from Moore and South OKC, has launched laws in the previous that might make customary time permanent.

“I’ve actually ran a standard time bill three years, and the one last year to put it to a vote of the people,” stated West.

House Bill 3147 was West’s invoice. It would give Oklahomans the prospect to vote on their desire.

Representative West helps customary time. He stated its partly as a result of the United States tried to run on daylight saving time in the Seventies, however many Americans complained.

“If we went to daylight saving time year-round, there would be times of the year where it’s like 8:30, 8:45 in the morning before the sun comes up,” stated West. “When you’ve got kids going to school or you’re trying to get to work, that becomes a problem.”

And that was the issue for Americans in 1974.

The two-year experiment was signed into law by President Richard Nixon. At the time, over 75% of Americans supported the invoice.

It was discontinued after solely 10 months.

Dr. Skaggs stated our our bodies would modify to any permanent time change.

For Stephens, that permanent change needs to be in assist of the time that we’ve for eight months out of the 12 months — daylight saving time — in comparison with customary time, which we’ve for less than 4 months.

“If you lock in standard time, you’re now affecting the calendar eight months, so it’s not 50%,” stated the senator from Tahlequah.
