Texas teen describes being inside home during tornado



“We were just like, ‘oh man, it’s coming,'” Landyn Roberts stated. “The lights were flickering. And we were just like, ‘this coming.'”

MIDCITY, Texas — Tornadoes ripped via components of Texas and Oklahoma Friday, leaving many households and householders making an attempt to cope with the aftermath of the storm.

Lamar County, close to the border of Texas and Oklahoma, was an space hit exhausting, together with the unincorporated neighborhood referred to as Midcity.

Landyn Roberts and his household have been residing in Midcity for about three years now. Roberts, 17, was in his home along with his mother, sister and canines when the tornado was about to hit their neighborhood.

It wasn’t till they bought a name from a buddy that they realized what was about to occur.

“She advised us to get inside the house because me and my mom were outside when this was all taking place,” Roberts stated.

The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management stated the tornado touched down shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.

So Roberts and his household went right into a closet.

“We were just like, ‘oh man, it’s coming,'” Roberts stated. “The lights were flickering. And we were just like, ‘this coming.'”

That’s when Roberts stated his mother stepped in to arrange them for what may occur.

“My mom was like, ‘alright, grab the pillows,'” Roberts stated. “We held them over my head, and we just heard rumbling. It sounded like a helicopter coming over our heads. We just felt sheetrock on our heads. And we all started saying the Lord’s prayer, right here.”

Thankfully, Roberts stated whereas a big chunk of their home was destroyed, everybody inside the home when the tornado got here via was secure.

“It was just really scary,” Roberts stated. “Just knowing that something that could take our house away and we could all go was right there was scary. “Really, simply with out having God’s fingers over us, I believe it might have been a complete lot worse.”

Roberts stated as soon as the tornado was gone, his first intuition was to go verify on all his close by neighbors to verify they have been OK as nicely.

“I was just like, ‘I have to go help these people,'” Roberts stated.

On Saturday, Roberts stated many family and friends had already confirmed as much as assist with the cleanup and produce some meals. He stated he and his household might be staying with some household buddies for the time being.

“Everyone’s just trying to work together,” Roberts stated. “Just trying to clean up the best we can and just try to move on from this.”
