We are excited to announce that Allison P. Erickson shall be becoming a member of The Texas Tribune as a reporting fellow protecting military and veterans points in Texas.
Allison, who’s from San Antonio, joins the Tribune for a six-month fellowship via a brand new partnership with Military Veterans in Journalism.
Allison served as a Medical Service Corps officer within the U.S. Army from 2011 to 2018, rising to the rank of captain and finishing a fight deployment to Afghanistan. She is a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Meritorious Service Medal and an Army Commendation Medal.
Allison’s journalism profession started earlier than she turned a soldier when she studied editorial journalism at Texas Christian University. She wrote for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Texas Monthly and The Point. She has a grasp’s diploma in inventive publishing and demanding journalism from The New School in New York. She has since labored freelance assignments in print and digital news and produced podcast reporting on migration, politics and well being.
“I couldn’t be happier to develop my journalism skills and contribute to the excellent reporting from the team,” she mentioned. “I look forward to reporting military and veteran stories in my home state.”
Through the Tribune-MVJ partnership, Allison will present much-needed context and perspective in protecting military and veteran affairs in a state with huge military installations and a big veteran inhabitants.
Allison, who will work primarily out of the Tribune’s Austin-based headquarters, will start her fellowship Monday.
