MIAMI – The South Florida Water Management District is getting ready for the storms heading to South Florida.
They have crews manning all 77 pumps in our space.
A spokesperson for the district stated the pumping station in Davie, close to Griffin Road and 441 supplies flooding aid for greater than 350,000 individuals in Broward County.
They are pumping billions of gallons of water out of that canal and others prefer it to ensure there may be room for storm runoff.
All the water being launched is heading into the Ocean. This similar course of is occurring at dozens of different pumps in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties.
Randy Smith, with South Florida Water Management District stated they have been getting ready and dealing with corresponding counties forward of time so everybody’s flood management programs are able to go.
“In a situation where you have an incredible amount of rain in an isolated location in a short amount of time – that’s probably the hardest to mitigate the flooding issues with. But if you have 4-8 inches over 36-48 hours most everyone’s flood control system is able to handle that,” stated Smith.
Throughout the day and all by the weekend crews can be stationed at pumps in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. They stated they’re ready for the storms to come back.
