CARROLLTON, Texas — Police launched Thursday the main points for the vigil, visitation and funeral for the Carrollton police officer killed in a crash earlier this week.

Tuesday evening, the Carrollton Police Department recognized Nothem because the officer who died in the crash. Nothem was in his squad automotive, helping a drunk-driving investigation, when it was hit by a passing driver’s automobile, police stated.
On Wednesday, WFAA’s William Joy spoke with the officer’s father, Steve Nothem. Steve Nothem stated earlier than his son was a police officer, he served as a U.S. Marine and did two excursions in Iraq.
“He did that because he wanted to matter. He wanted …,” Nothem stated, as he choked up. “The Iraq war was young and dangerous, and he wanted to make his mark.”
Nothem’s loss of life is the primary line-of-duty officer loss of life in the town’s historical past.
The officer’s loss of life marks the second week in a row of tragedy for North Texas police departments.
Dallas police officer Jacob Arellano was killed final week whereas driving to work. He was struck head-on by a driver on Spur 408 in southwest Dallas. The driver who struck Arellano was going the unsuitable manner on the freeway.

The crash Nothem was concerned in occurred on the turnpike near Josey Lane at about 10:30 p.m. Police stated the officer was taken to a hospital, the place he died.
The driver who hit Nothem’s automobile, 82-year-old Phillip Parker, of Carrollton, died on the scene, police stated.
Rex Redden, the town’s government director of public security who’s serving as appearing police chief, stated Nothem was a husband and a father to 4 kids. He had served the Carrollton Police Department for virtually three years.
Nothem leaves behind a 13-year-old son, twin 6-year-old sons and a 1-year-old daughter, police stated.
