Author Salman Rushdie was taken off a ventilator and in a position to speak Saturday, a day after he was stabbed as he ready to present a lecture in upstate New York. Rushdie remained hospitalized with severe accidents, however fellow writer Aatish Taseer tweeted within the night that he was “off the ventilator and speaking (and joking).
