A retired New York police officer was arrested outside of the U.S. Capitol constructing in Washington, D.C., on Friday morning after he was discovered with a fake badge, body armor, a BB gun and ammunition that included excessive capability magazines.
Jerome Felipe, of Flint, Michigan, was taken into custody by U.S. Capitol Police round 5 a.m. after he parked his 2017 Dodge Challenger close to the constructing, based on a USCP news launch.
Felipe is going through expenses for illegal possession of excessive capability magazines and unregistered ammunition. It’s not clear why he was parked close to the Capitol.
An USCP officer began speaking to Felipe, who offered the officer with a fake badge that had “Department of the INTERPOL” printed on it.
“Felipe also made a statement that he was a criminal investigator with the agency,” the news launch states.
Felipe, 53, allowed officers to go looking his car. There was a BB gun, two ballistic vests, a number of excessive capability magazines, and different ammunition within the automotive, authorities mentioned. No actual firearms had been discovered.
A senior New York City legislation enforcement official instructed NBC News that Felipe is a former NYPD officer who left the division in 2018 as he confronted departmental expenses.
The expenses had been allegations he misrepresented himself in official proceedings as a detective when his precise rank was police officer, the legislation enforcement official says.
As a results of the allegations, the official says, Felipe couldn’t get the correct credentials upon retiring from the police division to get a gun allow. His NYPD ID card really says “no firearm,” the official says.
