Police investigating deadly shooting in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach police detectives are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in his 20s on Monday afternoon. It happened in broad daylight in a neighborhood near the intersection of W. International Speedway and S. Nova Road.

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Timothy Seamore Jr., died at the scene, according to investigators.

Police blocked off an area of Magnolia Ave, between Adams and Reva streets, and put down several evidence markers as they investigated. While a hostage negotiations truck was also present, police explained that it was serving as their command center and that there was no hostage situation involved with this crime. Seamore Jr. had several loved ones on the scene after the crime had been committed.

“I got a call today saying to check on him. When I got here, he was gone,” said the man’s ex-girlfriend, Wanya McCoy. “Somebody heard something happened at his house, and I came. I told him if he ever needed me, I was coming, so I came.”

McCoy explained, the two had been together for three years. Even after they broke up, however, she said they stayed close.

“I don’t know how to feel. It was somebody I loved. I still love him,” she said after the shooting. “We don’t have to be together, we’re cordial, we’re friends. He helped me raise two of my kids. They love him like he’s their father. I don’t know how to tell them – how am I supposed to tell them somebody that they love is gone?”

The victim’s cousin was on the scene after the shooting as well. She said she was too distraught and full of grief to do a full interview, but told FOX 35 News that Seamore Jr. was a nice, caring person. McCoy reiterated that sentiment. 

“He was a good guy, and he did not deserve this. Nobody deserves this. And if you know anything, you should speak up. It’s not a secret. It’s nothing to hide, it’s somebody’s loved one.”
