MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A police chase ended Wednesday morning with one suspect being taken into custody at Miami International Airport.
Sky 10 was once above the chase in a while after 6:30 a.m. as a black Chevrolet Tahoe was once being adopted via police in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 from 62nd Street.
The driving force then headed west on State Road 112 earlier than preventing at the airport close to departures.
The guy who was once using the SUV was once taken to the bottom via officials at gunpoint earlier than being handcuffed.
He has since been known as 57-year-old Walter Lee Griggs Jr.
According to Miami-Dade police, the SUV was once stolen and had stolen assets inside of.
The truck belongs to Joe Basto. It was once taken round 9 p.m. Tuesday from his trade, Wilson Window Tint, in Margate. Police mentioned surveillance cameras had been rolling when Griggs broke into the trade and were given into the SUV like he was once the landlord.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Basto instructed Local 10 News’ Liane Morejon, who requested him how he may just inform the stolen car in the police chase was once his. “When they zoomed in with the helicopter, I could see the rims.”
Police mentioned the SUV was once adopted via the Broward Sheriff’s Office Aviation unit from Broward the entire method to MIA.
Miami-Dade police then took Griggs into custody at the airport.
MDPD is dealing with the stolen car restoration and mentioned the robbery of the SUV is being treated via the Margate Police Department.
“The truck is filled with automotive tint, house film, our tools,” Basto mentioned. “That’s basically our work vehicle.”
He was once ready to pick out up his SUV from the tow backyard intact.
“Looks like almost everything is there,” he mentioned. “We found the laptop, that was the most important. All the film is there, all the tools, a battery charger.”
Basto mentioned there have been further pieces in there that weren’t his.
“That’s not our laptop, I don’t know whose bag that is, and that’s not our clothes either,” he mentioned. “I’ve never seen that TV in my life. I wasn’t the only place that he hit.”
