An individual set themself on fire in front of the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday evening, a court docket spokesperson stated, whereas emphasizing that there was no menace to public security.
According to the court docket spokesperson, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Minutes later, a medical helicopter landed and took the unidentified particular person to a neighborhood hospital.
No one else was injured, the spokesperson stated.
The space was closed to the general public after the Supreme Court Police, U.S. Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police Department responded on the scene.
“The area remains closed for further investigation, but this is not a public safety issue,” the court docket spokesperson stated in an announcement.
The Supreme Court was not in session on the time, and Congress is in recess. The Capitol is instantly throughout the road from the Supreme Court.
Capitol Police tweeted in regards to the incident Friday evening, saying the helicopter was responding to a medical emergency and that there was no menace to others.
