Parks and Rec discusses projects | Texas News

The metropolis of Brenham mentioned a number of upcoming projects throughout Wednesday’s quarterly assembly.

Among them have been a crossover landbridge at Hohlt Park and the development of Brenham Family Park. Both projects are projected to obtain grant funding from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

“We gave an update on the Texas Parks and Wildlife grants that are in the works for HohIt Park and Brenham Family Park,” group companies specialist Crystal Locke mentioned. “The crossover trail is definitely in the projected start timeline of September. We applied for the grant in 2020 and I do feel like the September timeframe is still in reason. The completion date is set for February. The Family Park will be on the south side. The Kruse family donated a tract of land that’s been earmarked for a park. We’re hoping to see the grant agreement from TPWD in the fall and the construction will hopefully start in the spring. We’ll have three years to complete, but we think it could be complete in 9-12 months.”

With COVID-19, some issues have been delayed. However, Locke doesn’t blame the pandemic for the ready recreation.

“There were some different components through the national park service that changed,” Locke mentioned. “One of them is that they want plans up front before funds are awarded.”

With summer season being in session, Locke mentioned the parks have been “super busy.”

“Families are enjoying the summer activities and lots of tournaments have been going on,” Locke mentioned. “Our staff has been preparing fields and we’re ready for the influx of people coming in on the weekends.”
