Organs flown through Oklahoma and Texas on uncrewed flight – FOX23 News

OKLAHOMA CITY — On Tuesday, an uncrewed aerial transport system moved donated human organs throughout three cities within the longest distance donated organs have ever been transported by way of an uncrewed aerial system.

Three organ organ procurement organizations, LifeShare, LifeGift and Texas Sharing Organ Alliance, partnered with Matador Uncrewed Aerial System Consortium, co-developed by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and 2THEDGE, LLC., to check the flexibility to maneuver organs and blood between Lubbock, Texas, Oklahoma City and San Antonio, Texas.

“We are excited about the opportunities this groundbreaking research could bring, including revolutionizing transportation in the donation field,” LifeShare President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Orlowski mentioned. “Our partnership with the Matador UAS Consortium will in turn help us maximize the gift to save more lives through organ, eye and tissue donation.”

A donated human liver, kidney, and pancreas have been transported between the three cities.

The flight began in Lubbock, traveled 354 miles to Oklahoma City and then traveled 462 miles to San Antonio.

The flight was the primary time donated organs have been transported such a distance by an uncrewed aerial system.

Even although a pilot was current, the aircraft was flown totally by expertise onboard.

The organs have been donated for scientific analysis and weren’t transplanted after the flight.
