Opa-locka man was driving nearly 100 mph when he hit, killed scooter rider, police say



OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Miami-Dade police arrested an Opa-locka man on a couple of prison fees Thursday in reference to a perilous late-2022 crash within the town that claimed the lifetime of a scooter rider.

Police mentioned the then-20-year-old driving force, Joshua Miguel Webbe Jr., was going nearly 100 mph on Northwest twenty seventh Avenue when he hit and killed the sufferer, Jose Vinent, 62, simply after nighttime on Dec. 11, 2022.

According to an arrest warrant, Vinent was turning from Sharar Avenue when Webbe, who police later decided was driving 96 mph in a 35 mph zone, slammed into him, sending Vinent flying onto the roadway and leaving his scooter “disintegrated.”

Medics pronounced Vinent lifeless on the scene. Police mentioned Webbe, who didn’t have a driving force’s license, ran away after the crash with out calling police or rendering assist.

He voluntarily returned hours later and admitted to being in the back of the wheel, police mentioned.

Authorities arrested Webbe, now 21, at his house on Northwest 143rd Terrace Thursday on fees of vehicular murder, leaving the scene of a crash inflicting dying and driving with out a license in a crash inflicting dying.

He was being held within the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $55,000 bond as of Friday afternoon, in keeping with prison information.
