That was something that I challenged our fan base to do, our donors to do, our administration to do, was trust the fact that you hired me to do a job; let’s get on board and let’s all move in the same direction to make this thing special again.”

Sarkisian referenced his time at Alabama as helpful for what comes subsequent at Texas within the sport’s best convention. The SEC had 65 gamers chosen within the 2022 NFL Draft, together with a mixed 32 from Georgia, LSU and Alabama. The Longhorns, in the meantime, had been utterly shut out of the draft for simply the second time since 1937.

“There’s a lot of great aspects of [Alabama] that I think we can take with us, but naturally, we have to do the things I’m comfortable doing and doing it the way that best suits us,” Sarkisian said. “There’s great coaches in the SEC, there’s really good players, there’s big people, there’s fast people. We’ve got to assemble a really good staff, which I think we’ve done. We’ve got to recruit on a really high level, which I think that we’ve shown that we can do. And then ultimately get those players big enough, faster and stronger.”

“It goes back to coaching,” Venables said on why the team was so undisciplined all season. “I think that’s where it starts. We have moments where we have great discipline and moments where we’re very inconsistent. To me, it goes back to coaching. So, that’s where it starts. Players got to decide in those moments of pressure — we got to have that kind of discipline you’ve got to have to execute in the win. It’s a game of execution and it’s a game of — again — discipline. Obviously, we’ve got to do a better job coaching.”
