STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State soccer senior linebacker Lamont Bishop announced his intentions to enter the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday after learning he does not have any years of eligibility remaining.
Bishop was anticipated to have an additional yr of eligibility in 2023 due to the waiver given by the NCAA for the pandemic-shortened season in 2020. However, Bishop tells GoPokes247 he was knowledgeable after the season finale towards West Virginia in November that he now not had any eligibility remaining. He appealed the case in December, however the determination was upheld.
Bishop spent the previous three seasons with the Cowboys after transferring in from Iowa Central Community College forward of the 2021 marketing campaign. I also want to thank my Iowa Central family for bringing me in with open arms and helping set my foundation for this journey. I’m truly blessed to be in this situation.

Bishop started his final game with the Cowboys at the Guaranteed Rate Bowl against Wisconsin last month. He had nine tackles, two tackles for loss totaling 12 yards and a quarterback hurry in a defeat.
As a junior in 2021, Bishop played in every game except the season opener for Oklahoma State. He totaled four tackles on the year with a pair of tackles for loss and a sack.
Coming out of Iowa Central Community College in the 2020 class, Bishop was considered to be the No. 7 inside linebacker in junior college, as well as the No. 160 overall junior college recruit in the nation.
He picked Oklahoma State over additional offers from Jacksonville State, Marshall, Morgan State, Southern Miss and UAB.
The departure of Bishop means Oklahoma State will have six linebackers on the roster with in-game experience. The Cowboys have two incoming freshman linebackers as part of their 2023 signing class. Oklahoma State already lost starting linebacker and leading tackler Mason Cobb to the transfer portal in December. Cobb has since joined USC.
The Cowboys are expected to return senior linebacker Xavier Benson in 2023 and added former Tulsa standout linebacker Justin Wright back in December via the transfer portal.
The 2023 NFL Draft is set for April 27-29 in Kansas City, Missouri.
