OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Sen. Cody Rogers, R-Tulsa, says he’s planning to file laws to prohibit discussions of sexual orientation and gender id in schools and require districts to notify dad and mom of any modifications or points their pupil is having associated to their psychological, emotional, or bodily well being or well-being.
Rogers says faculty personnel can be chargeable for recommending college students have these conversations at residence with a mother or father or authorized guardian, and district faculty boards can be chargeable for creating procedures on how to notify dad and mom.
“Children are in school to learn, not to be indoctrinated through inappropriate conversations that do not follow state standards,” Rogers mentioned. “The health and safety of students is a top priority, and this bill ensures that parents, school staff and the student are all on the same page about what is best for the child’s well-being.”
The bill would prohibit classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender id for kindergarten by third grade.
Rogers says below this laws, dad and mom of Ok-3rd grade college students can be offered any questionnaire or well being screening types and should consent to the shape earlier than it’s handed out to their youngster.
“This measure ultimately ensures that parents have rights and know what their children are being exposed to at school,” Rogers mentioned. “The bill relates to sensitive topics that are outside of approved state curriculum, and the intent is not to treat students differently based on how they identify.”
The deadline to file laws forward of the 2023 session is Jan. 19. The session formally convenes on Feb. 6.
