NOW, WHILE WE HAVEN’T GOTTEN A TON WITH EXCUSE ME, WINTER PRECIP, WE DEFINITELY HAVE SEEN ENOUGH THAT. SOME SPOTS IN THE ROADWAYS CAN BE SLICK. THERE’S SNOW BLOWING AROUND RIGHT NOW. BUT WENT AHEAD. WE TALKED TO ODOT ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AND THEIR MESSAGE FOR DRIVERS THIS MORNING. A SEMI OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD YOURSELF PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN YOU AND THEM JUST TO BE SAFE. IF ANY HIGH WINDS OR WINTER WEATHER IS COMING DOWN THERE IS THAT BUFFER ZONE. SO YOU CAN DEFINITELY TELL IT’S BREATHTAKING COLD OUT HERE. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO CATCH MY BREATH BECAUSE THE WIND IS JUST BLOWING RIGHT AT US. BUT WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS A TEMPERATURE GUN. WE HAVE THIS SO THAT WE CAN MEASURE THE ROAD TEMPERATURE HERE. SO I’M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND POINTED AT THE CONCRETE OUT HERE. WE’RE AT 12, 16, 13 DEGREES HERE FOR THIS ROAD TEMPERATURE. NOW, THIS IS PROBABLY MEASURING LITTLE BIT OF SNOW OR ICE ON TOP OF THE ROADS. SO I WOULD SAY THAT THE ROAD TEMPERATURES JUST A BIT ABOVE THAT. BUT, YOU KNOW, IT’S BELOW FREEZING, WHICH MEANS THAT ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN SEE WILL STICK, TOO, AND IT WILL STICK ON IMPACT. NOW, I ALSO WANT TO MEASURE THE CAR. NOW, THE CAR IS, OF COURSE, GOING TO BE A LOT COLDER. SO WE’RE SEEING THE CAR RIGHT AROUND THREE DEGREES EARLIER, WE WERE SEEING THIS CAR AT OH, THERE YOU GO, ZERO DEGREES NOW, ONE BELOW. THAT MEANS THAT ANYTHING THAT FREEZES THIS MORNING, WELL, FIRST FREEZE ON YOUR WINDSHIELD COLD. IT’LL FREEZE ON YOUR CAR FIRST. AND THEN THE GROUND. SOME SLICK SPOTS ON THE GROUND.
