Oklahoma ministry opens emergency shelter amid dangerously cold weather 

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – It’s the coldest climate we’ve seen in 18 months.

The harmful climate situations depart these unhoused with no place to remain heat. But due to a neighborhood ministry, they’ll have a spot to maintain heat. 

“It’s Christmastime, and we want them safe and warm,” stated Donna Heins, with Grace United Urban Ministries.

Heins is organising the emergency shelter inside Eastside Church of Christ. 

She and her ministry used a small bus to select up Oklahomans dwelling in homeless encampments. 

“They are so grateful because they know how close they are to dying in this type of weather,” stated Heins.

Dozens of unhoused folks arrived on the Midwest City church with out sneakers and a few with out socks.

But due to numerous donations, the ministry was capable of present them with requirements.

“We’ve taken people out of tents, put them back in the school, put them back on jobs,” stated Heins.

Hot meals will likely be served, they usually’ll have a spot to sleep.

The assist system is felt deeply, particularly for Cynthia Perryman, who not too long ago grew to become unhoused.

“I feel that people love me,” stated Perryman. “There’s help for me because I wasn’t gonna be able to do it.” 

“The bottom line is that everybody doesn’t have an addiction,” stated Heins. “Everybody does not have a mental illness. [Some] very good people are on the street.”
