Oklahoma man to referee Super Bowl for first time

JAY, Okla. — The NFL introduced its officiating crew Tuesday for the upcoming Super Bowl, together with an Oklahoma man who will referee within the NFL’s largest sport for the first time in his profession.

Jerod Phillips of Jay will probably be considered one of three officers new to the Super Bowl crew that includes 5 others with prior expertise within the season finale. Phillips is in his seventh yr as an NFL official.

He is a trainer and basketball coach at Wickliffe Public Schools in Mayes County. Phillips’s household says he is the first Cherokee Nation citizen to be chosen to officiate within the Super Bowl.
