BAXTER SPRINGS — One Oklahoma man died and two different four-state residents have been injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon north of Baxter Springs on U.S. 69 Alternate.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 3:05 p.m. Monday on U.S. 69 Alternate 1.5 miles north of U.S. 166.
A 2006 Pontiac G-6 pushed by Trey Cunningham, 20, Grove, Oklahoma, was northbound on the freeway and crossed the middle line and struck a southbound 2016 GMC pickup pushed by Shannon L. Taft, 51, Baxter Springs.

Cunningham was taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, the place he died. His passenger, Valeria Lerma, 21, Miami, Oklahoma, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Joplin for a suspected critical harm. Taft was taken to Freeman for a suspected critical harm as effectively. Taft and Lerma wore seat belts. Cunningham didn’t, the KHP report mentioned.
