The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is getting ready to deal with roads for one more spherical of winter climate after the primary wave led to an enormous variety of wrecks Thursday morning.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that troopers responded to greater than 100 crashes within the Oklahoma City space by 8:30 a.m. Thursday. They labored 71 non-injury wrecks, 33 damage collisions, and one lethal crash by which a 27-year-old was killed.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Police Department stated officers responded to 38 injury-causing accidents from midnight to eight:30 a.m. Thursday. There had been so many crashes that police needed to droop going to non-injury wrecks to prioritize damage collisions.
“The freezing fog came in [Thursday] morning, I think, caught a lot of people off guard,” Bryce Boyer, public information officer for the ODOT, stated. “You know, freezing fog really impacts those elevated surfaces. So a lot of crashes we saw [Thursday] morning were on bridges, overpasses.”
ODOT had about two dozen vehicles within the metro space treating these elevated roadways, Thursday morning, in keeping with Boyer.
(*2*) Boyer stated. “So we did kind of have to treat the weather as it came in.”
With extra moist snow anticipated late Thursday and freezing temperatures anticipated in a single day, slick situations may develop for the Friday morning commute. To enhance the roads, Boyer stated ODOT deliberate to deploy 15 vehicles in Oklahoma County, one other 15 in Canadian County, and a pair extra in Cleveland County beginning round midnight.
“Luckily, we had some warmer temperatures [Thursday], so some of the salt and sand we laid down on the roads that haven’t washed away will still be effective when the next wave moves through,” Boyer stated. “And then as it comes down, we’ll be right there with it, treating as we can.”
