Oakland shooting near school leaves 5 injured, police say



The police division did not say if all or any of these taken to hospitals have been shot.

OAKLAND, Calif. — At least six individuals have been injured in a shooting at a school in east Oakland on Wednesday, officials said.

Paramedics transported six sufferers to hospitals, all with gunshot wounds, in keeping with Oakland Fire Department spokesperson Michael Hunt. It was not instantly clear how most of the victims have been kids or adults.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s spokesperson Justin Berton confirmed the shooting occurred at Sojourner Truth Independent Study, another Okay-12 school, and mentioned an announcement was forthcoming.

Alameda County Sheriff spokesperson Lt. Ray Kelly mentioned the scene of the shooting was “no longer active.”

The police division mentioned on Twitter that it’s investigating a shooting that occurred on a block that’s residence to 4 colleges, together with Sojourner Truth Independent Study, BayTech Charter School, Rudsdale Newcomer High School.

Police didn’t instantly return calls from The Associated Press searching for extra information. Television footage confirmed dozens of police vehicles and yellow tape on the road outdoors the colleges and college students leaving the campus.

Oakland City Council Member Loren Taylor, who was outdoors the school, declined to verify any particulars in regards to the incident, telling KTVU-TV, “Guns were on our school campuses where our babies were supposed to be protected.”
