Nominations being accepted for AARP Oklahoma Native American Elders Honors | News

OKLAHOMA CITY – Nominations are open for the fifteenth annual AARP Oklahoma Native American Elder Honors, which celebrates 50 Native American elders who’ve positively impacted the nation, state, communities and Indian Country.

The deadline to submit nominations is March 31. 

Since 2009, the annual occasion, beforehand often called AARP Oklahoma Indian Elder Honors, has acknowledged practically 700 elders from Oklahoma’s 39 tribal nations.

“AARP Oklahoma seeks to recognize elders who embody AARP’s mission and vision and inspire others to serve,” AARP Oklahoma State Director Sean Voskuhl stated. “The Native American elders we recognize demonstrate the difference we can make in others’ lives and our communities.” 

Previous honorees embrace academics, veterans, artists, tribal leaders and tradition preservationists. The AARP Oklahoma Native American Elder Honors celebration will happen within the fall of 2023.
