Nikki Haley campaign calls website accusing her of being liberal created by DeSantis as ‘Hail Mary’

The rivalry between GOP presidential candidates Ron DeSantis and Niki Haley is only getting more intense.

Over the weekend, DeSantis’ presidential campaign launched a new website accusing Haley, the former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, of being “supportive of every liberal cause under the sun.”

Labeled “The Real Nikki Haley,” the site hosts links to stories tying Haley to issues including abortion, immigration, taxes, and free speech.

The Haley camp is now responding. They call the creation of the website a “Hail Mary” that the DeSantis campaign is only unveiling now because “he’s losing.”

“Ron DeSantis’ Hail Mary attempt to revive his corpse of a campaign is sad,” said Ken Farnaso, press secretary to the Haley campaign, in an email statement to the Phoenix.

“Instead, he should explain why he still recruits Chinese businesses to Florida, opposes offshore oil drilling and fracking, and voted to raise the national debt. While Nikki is surging across the early states, DeSantis is tanking. Poll after poll has proven Nikki Haley is the best challenger to Donald Trump and Joe Biden. Ron DeSantis is lying because he’s losing.”

The DeSantis campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

While former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the Republican race for president in polls both nationally and in the early voting states, Haley and DeSantis have been attacking each other regularly as Haley’s poll numbers have ascended in recently weeks.

In New Hampshire, Haley is solidly in second place in all recent surveys, according to RealClearPolitics. DeSantis is now in fourth place in the Granite State, behind not only Trump and Haley but also former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

In Iowa, where the DeSantis campaign says he has now campaigned in 98 of the 99 counties in the state, DeSantis is still in second place but Haley is moving up there, as well.  According to RealClearPolitics, DeSantis is averaging 17.3% in all polls in the Hawkeye State while Haley is at 14.3%. Trump dominates in Iowa with 47%.
