As News 9 made the transition to a brand-new downtown studio, the station took time to donate some archived footage to a number of completely different organizations, together with the University of Central Oklahoma.

“We knew it was imperative to save as much as we could,” Kriegel said. “The film is fragile because it has to be in a stored environment.”
Natalie Willard, senior director at UCO’s Max Chambers Library, said documenting important moments of Oklahoma history may be forgotten without this effort.
“With archives, you might have one alternative,” Willard mentioned. “Because when they’re gone, they do not exist wherever else.”
The reason these tapes are of value to UCO? George Nigh served as the governor of Oklahoma from 1979 to 1987. He also served as UCO’s president.
“Governor Nigh is all through this materials, and he was our president for 5 years, so there may be a whole lot of materials in right here I believe we’ll discover invaluable,” said Willard.
Kriegel began his journey with News 9 back in 1984. His first assignment with the station involved Nigh.
“I can see a lot of projects there or a lot of grant writing opportunities, whether they are in political science or journalism or they are in museum studies, because this is history and everybody loves a story,” mentioned Willard.
