New York State recovers $191K in unpaid wages for 93 employees

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) introduced on Wednesday its newest success story as a part of its mission to make sure staff are paid their due.

The company recovered greater than $191,000 in unpaid wages for 93 employees at Magellan Technology/Demand Vape, a Buffalo-based firm.

A criticism from a competitor prompted an investigation by NYSDOL’s Division of Labor Standards.

The company discovered that the 93 employees had been shorted beneath New York State’s unfold of hours regulation for service staff.

“We are doing everything we can to not only protect workers, but also educate employers and businesses,” NYSDOL Commissioner Roberta Reardon stated. “The involvement of NYSDOL brought this issue to the employer’s attention and secured the recovery of the unpaid wages. We will continue to work with employers to ensure all employees are receiving the pay they work hard for and deserve.”

Earlier this month, the company introduced efficiently recovering greater than $270,000 in unpaid wages for a home employee.
