New York Daily News, Chicago Tribune sue OpenAI, Microsoft for data use

A bunch of 8 primary day-to-day newspapers, together with the Chicago Tribune and the New York Daily News, sued OpenAI and Microsoft on Tuesday, becoming a member of the backlash to artificial-intelligence firms that experience used copyrighted paintings to coach their algorithms with out compensating content material house owners.

The publications had been joined within the swimsuit through South Florida’s Sun Sentinel, the Denver Post, Orange County (Calif.) Register, San Jose Mercury News, Orlando Sentinel and St. Paul Pioneer Press. The lawsuit alleges that OpenAI and Microsoft used their news articles to coach and run their AI equipment, together with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. All 8 newspapers are owned through New York City-based funding fund Alden Global Capital.
