City Council members voted unanimously to approve the city’s annual budget, the primary unanimous vote on the budget since 2019.
DALLAS — Dallas City Council members unanimously passed the city’s budget for the subsequent fiscal 12 months Wednesday, the primary unanimous vote on the budget since 2019.
Mayor Eric Johnson strongly supported this 12 months’s budget, initially proposed by City Manager T.C. Broadnax and later amended by Johnson and council members.
“No budget is perfect. But this is the best one I have seen in my time as mayor, and it is clear that our city government is moving in the right direction,” Johnson stated in an announcement. “This budget puts public safety first, prioritizes tax relief, invests in our families and neighborhoods, and strengthens our city staff’s ability to respond to homelessness, code issues, and corruption.”
Johnson stated this budget addresses his high budget priorities, together with a 2.75-cent tax charge discount, and a plan to rent 250 cops throughout the upcoming fiscal 12 months.
“Our city has an incredibly bright future,” Johnson said. “And together, we are addressing long-standing issues while building a city government that is as strong as the people of Dallas.”
Johnson has solely voted in opposition to one city budget, from 2020-21, when he stated he did not again the budget as a result of public security cutbacks, not sufficient tax relief and inadequate infrastructure spending.
Other particulars of the budget embody a rise to the age 65 or older and disabled homestead exemption from $107,000 to $115,500, wage will increase for police and firefighters, a brand new night-detail unit within the city’s leisure districts, a further ambulance and fireplace engine, and a $157 million plan to take care of avenue infrastructure.
The new fiscal 12 months will start Oct. 1 and finish Sept. 30, 2023.
