Mustang High Shelters In Place During Storm, Parents Happy With Quick Action

As storms rolled by means of the Oklahoma City metro Monday morning, college students in Mustang have been pressured to take shelter. 

A EF-0 twister was confirmed by the National Weather Service on Monday afternoon. 

Parents have been despatched an e-mail that knowledgeable them college students did shelter in place on the faculty. 

News 9 spoke with two dad and mom who have been inspired by the district’s fast actions. 

“I believe their high precedence is and at all times has been the child’s security,” said Lindsay Atwell, a parent of a Mustang High School student. 

“I’ve been here for about 3 years, I don’t do well with tornado season at all,” stated Kelsey Meyer, mum or dad. 

During the shelter in place, Meyer’s son was in a position to ship her texts, letting her know that he was secure. 

“They took the children into shelter fairly rapidly earlier than something might occur,” said Meyer. 

Lindsay Atwell has a daughter at Mustang High, and says her daughter was also texting her during the shelter-in-place. Atwell says her daughter texted her “it is not a drill.” 

“I was a little nervous at first, but I know the school will take care of my kids,” stated Atwell. 

“I used to be in a position to watch the news on channel 9 and there was a confirmed landing. So, I used to be very glad that the varsity took precautions.”  

News 9 issued our tornado warning just before 8:30 a.m. Monday.  

Both Atwell and Meyer said they’re glad for the school’s response and think it is a good sign for future severe weather. 

“I’d rather it be safety and a possible scare than not doing anything at all,” stated Meyer. 

“They deal with our children first after which we’re knowledgeable later so I haven’t got any doubt that Mustang will do what’s greatest for our kids,” stated Atwell.
