Just earlier than the beginning of a brand new semester, an unsolved homicide close to the University of North Texas in Denton has some college students on edge.
Police say Cory Johnson, 43, was discovered shot after 10 p.m. Wednesday in his condominium within the 1000 block of Eagle Drive. He later died.
Those who knew Johnson describe him as a sort, exhausting employee who stored to himself.
“It’s weird and scary because it is right below us,” stated Destiny, a UNT scholar who lives above Johnson’s condominium.
Thursday, Denton police have been seen coming out and in of Johnson’s condominium which was surrounded by crime scene tape.
“He seemed really nice, quiet,” stated Destiny.
She says Johnson moved in downstairs not way back and had soul.
“He went to the food bank, and had, like, too much food and let me have some and put more out in the laundry for other people,” she recalled.
Destiny says she was at residence watching TV round 10:15 p.m. Wednesday when she and her roommate heard a number of gunshots.

Denton police say they responded to a 911 name about attainable gunfire and located Johnson’s condominium door barely ajar.
“They approached that door and they called out to see if there were any potential occupants inside and they did hear a response from somebody asking for help,” defined Denton Police Officer Allison Beckwith.
Beckwith says officers started life-saving measures earlier than Johnson was rushed to a hospital. He was pronounced lifeless at 11:57 p.m., police stated.
“I can confirm right now that we were able to speak with him briefly prior to him being transported but I can’t go into the details right now about what our officer was able to speak with him about,” stated Beckwith.
Beckwith instructed NBC 5 there isn’t any purpose to imagine there is a bigger risk to the general public and provided some reassurance.
“We are working diligently to solve this case and have a great team on the case working to find out what happened,” she stated.
It’s a query those that knew Johnson need answered.

“I just hope they find the person, honestly. This is ridiculous,” stated Destiny.
