MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man from Ocala was arrested Wednesday morning after fleeing from deputies on a stand-up electrical scooter after which leaping in the water, authorities mentioned.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt mentioned Jose Junior Vigil crossed U.S. 1 on Stock Island at roughly 2:47 a.m. on a scooter with no lights.
According to a press launch, deputies tried to cease Vigil as he traveled south towards Key West on the sidewalk. Vigil refused to cease for deputies and continued to drive to a lodge close to the doorway of Key West the place he fled on foot, Linhardt mentioned.
Deputies tried to shock Vigil with a Taser however weren’t profitable.
Authorities mentioned Vigil then jumped into the water and refused to return out. They mentioned a responding Key West police officer ultimately satisfied Vigil to get out of the water.
According to deputies, a small quantity of marijuana and a number of plastic baggies had been discovered in Vigil’s possession.
Vigil was transported to a close-by jail.
He faces expenses of fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
