Luxury cruise ship pulled free days after getting stuck off Greenland’s coast, authorities say

LONDON — A luxurious cruise ship sporting 206 folks has been pulled free days after it were given stuck off the coast of Greenland, authorities mentioned.

The Joint Arctic Command, which is a part of Denmark’s protection forces, introduced in a social media post on Thursday that the ship, named the Ocean Explorer, was once after all pulled free at prime tide in Greenland, which is a semiautonomous territory of Denmark.

The 343-foot lengthy and 60-foot broad vessel, which is operated via Australia-based cruise corporate Aurora Expeditions, was once touring towards a far flung nook of Greenland on Monday when it ran aground above the Arctic Circle close to Alpefjord within the Northeast Greenland National Park, the northernmost nationwide park on the planet.

The Greenland Institute of Nature’s analysis ship Tarajoq, which unsuccessfully attempted to free the cruise ship Wednesday, controlled to tug the Ocean Explorer free, the Joint Arctic Command mentioned.

“We’re really happy that it went so well and that the passengers and crew of the ship can now see an end to the difficult situation they’ve been in for the last few days,” Commander Captain Brian Jensen of the Joint Arctic Command, mentioned in a observation.

The cruise ship is now crusing to a port maintained via Maritime Accident Investigation Board for additional inspection, the Joint Arctic Command mentioned.

Previous makes an attempt to free the stranded ship on Tuesday and Wednesday have been unsuccessful.

It was once unclear why the vessel ran aground, and the incident will stay underneath investigation, officers mentioned.
