Key Biscayne bicyclist’s death after colliding with boy on e-bike prompts officials to consider ban



KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – After a deadly head-on collision between a 12-year-old boy on an e-bike and a 66-year-old bicyclist, Key Biscayne officials have been assembly on Friday to consider a ban on e-bikes and scooters within the island village.

Megan Andrews, who was once a loved tutor on the Key, and the boy each fell after the have an effect on on Wednesday evening close to the intersection of Hampton Lane and Woodcrest Road, in accordance to police.

Andrews wasn’t dressed in a helmet; the boy was once, in accordance to Detective Argemis Colome, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Key Biscayne Fire Rescue staff took Andrews to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center the place a health care provider declared her lifeless, in accordance to police.

Attorney Chad Friedman, who represents the Village of Key Biscayne, told The Key Biscayne Independent the council can legally ban scooters and e-bikes all over the place on the island apart from for Crandon Boulevard, which is below the county’s jurisdiction.
